BS – Surgical Technology
Surgical Technology is a specialised technical profession dedicated to the efficient management of surgical procedures for patients. Surgical Technologists play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and success of every operation within the operating theater.
Their primary responsibility encompasses the comprehensive management of the operating theater, including the meticulous care of surgical instruments, sterilization processes, and the arrangement of essential equipment such as the operation theater table, dressing table, and instrument table.
Scope of BS Surgical Technology
- Surgical Technology has become an essential healthcare profession, as modern operating theatres cannot function without skilled professionals who prepare, assist, and manage surgical procedures alongside surgeons.
- In Pakistan, the need for qualified surgical technologists continues to rise with the expansion of hospitals, surgical units, and specialized centres for cardiac, orthopaedic, neuro, and laparoscopic surgery across the country.
- Advancements in surgical techniques — including minimally invasive, laparoscopic, and robotic-assisted surgery — have created strong demand for technologists trained in modern operation theatre technology and equipment.
- Surgical technologists are required in government and private hospitals, trauma and emergency centres, day-care surgical units, and national and international healthcare organizations.
- The field offers diverse career pathways including operation theatre management, surgical assistance, anaesthesia support, central sterile supply department (CSSD) services, infection control, and quality assurance in operating theatres.
- Beyond clinical practice, graduates can build careers in the medical device and surgical equipment industry, working with companies in product support, training, and technical sales.

Hands-on experience in busy operating theaters, covering both basic and complex surgical procedures, prepares students to step directly into professional roles upon graduation.
Admission
Admission to Rehman College of Allied Health Sciences (RCAHS) is offered in fall each year. The admission is based on open merit through the RCAHS Admission Committee in accordance with the policies laid down by the Khyber Medical University. All decisions of the Admission Committee are deemed as final. The candidates are required to apply on prescribed application form available ONLINE at http://admissions.rmi.edu.pk/.
Successful candidates will be provided with further instructions to complete the admission process. All such candidates must submit an undertaking on Rs. 100/- Judicial paper.
Eligibility Criteria
- HSSC (Pre-Medical) / Equivalent with minimum 50% marks
- Appearance in KMU-CAT is mandatory
- Age: Maximum 25 Years
Scheme of Study
Merit List
- The admission to the allied health sciences programs shall be made strictly based on merit.
- In case the final merit of more than one candidate is equal up to four decimals, the candidate older in age shall stand higher in merit.
- After the display of the final merit list, if there is any vacant seat, the next student on merit on the waiting list will be offered admission against such vacant seat.
Merit Weightage
- Matric: 10%
- HSSC or equivalent: 50%
- KMU-CAT: 40%
Admission Process
RCAHS admits students annually through a transparent, merit-based admission process. Admissions are open to all eligible applicants without discrimination on the basis of ethnicity, race, religion, gender, or domicile.
Applications for all academic programmes must be submitted through the official admissions portal [admissions.rmi.edu.pk]. Only applications received through the prescribed online system shall be considered for scrutiny, merit determination, and further processing.
All shortlisted applicants shall be required to appear for an interview on the scheduled date and present their original academic credentials and supporting documents for verification.
Applicants offered admission shall be required to submit the following documents:
- Secondary School Certificate (SSC) or IBCC Equivalence Certificate
- Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) or IBCC Equivalence Certificate
- Domicile Certificate
- Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) or Form ‘B’ of the applicant
- CNIC of the father or legal guardian
- Recent passport-size photographs
Applicants are advised to visit the official college website regularly for admission announcements, merit lists, interview schedules, and other important updates.
All official communication regarding the admission process shall be made exclusively through the mobile number and email address provided by the applicant at the time of application.
Applicants are responsible for ensuring that their contact information remains accurate and accessible throughout the admission process.
An offer of admission shall remain provisional and subject to the successful verification of all submitted documents, medical fitness, payment of the prescribed fee, and fulfillment of all conditions specified in the Admission Offer Letter within the stipulated timeframe.
Upon admission, every student and their parent or legal guardian shall be required to submit a duly notarized affidavit on Rs. 100/- stamp paper, confirming their acceptance of the college’s academic, disciplinary, legal, and financial regulations, together with all other applicable policies and rules governing enrollment at RCAHS.
General Provision
- Regulatory authorities’ directives regarding admissions 2026–27 issued from time to time will be followed
- A strict NO DONATION POLICY is adopted. No one except, the office of admissions is authorized to give a written admission offer
- A fee for more than one (1) Semester will not be demanded
- All fees will be deposited in the official college-designated bank account
- SCHOLARSHIPS: As per the institution’s past practices, scholarships will be offered as per policy. Further details can be obtained from the college website.
