BS – Public Health
Public health encompasses a broad spectrum of activities, from designing community wellness programmes to crafting policies to combat infectious diseases. Public health professionals are dedicated to safeguarding and enhancing public health and well-being by encouraging healthy behaviors and understanding the global health impact.
The BS Public Health programme is designed to equip a public health workforce, generate new knowledge, and address social determinants of health. It aims to implement innovative approaches to enhance the health of both Pakistani citizens and beyond. This is achieved through a high-quality undergraduate training programme in public health sciences, focused on preserving, promoting, and improving individual and community health.
Scope of BS Public Health
- Public health is one of the fastest-growing fields in healthcare worldwide, as governments and organizations increasingly prioritize disease prevention, health promotion, and strengthening of healthcare systems.
- In Pakistan, the scope of public health has expanded rapidly due to challenges such as infectious disease outbreaks, polio eradication efforts, maternal and child health issues, malnutrition, and the rising burden of non-communicable diseases like diabetes, hypertension, and cancer.
- The COVID-19 pandemic further highlighted the critical need for trained public health professionals in disease surveillance, outbreak response, vaccination campaigns, and health communication.
- Public health graduates are in demand at both national and international levels, with opportunities in provincial and federal health departments, district health systems, hospitals, research organizations, and global agencies such as WHO, UNICEF, USAID, and other NGOs.
- The field offers diverse career pathways, including epidemiology, health programme management, disease surveillance, health education and promotion, monitoring and evaluation, environmental health, occupational health and safety, nutrition, and health policy.
- Public health professionals can work beyond hospitals—in communities, research institutes, universities, humanitarian organizations, and policy-making bodies—making it one of the most versatile degrees in health sciences.
- Graduates can pursue higher education such as MPH (Master of Public Health), MS/MPhil, and PhD in public health and allied disciplines, opening doors to academic, research, and leadership roles both in Pakistan and abroad.
- With growing national and global investment in preventive healthcare, health system strengthening, and universal health coverage, the scope of public health will continue to expand, ensuring strong long-term career prospects for graduates.
RMI, known as one of the top tertiary care hospitals in the region, provides its BS Public Health students with excellent training and learning opportunities, combining classroom education with practical, community-based field experience.
