BS – Medical Lab Technology
Medical Laboratory Technology is a supportive branch of medicine providing laboratory diagnostic services. Medical laboratory Technologists perform complex and varied laboratory analyses, and use critical thinking skills in determining the accuracy and validity of test results. They recognize the interdependency of testing information and possess the knowledge of physiologic and pathologic conditions affecting results in order to support medical decisions.
Scope of the Programme
Medical Laboratory Technologists sit at the heart of modern healthcare. An estimated majority of clinical decisions — from diagnosis to treatment monitoring — depend on laboratory findings, which makes skilled laboratory professionals indispensable to any functioning health system.
Demand for qualified Medical Laboratory Technologists is strong both within Pakistan and abroad. At home, however, the field of laboratory medicine continues to face a shortage of formally trained allied health professionals, leaving a wide gap between the need for diagnostic services and the trained workforce available to deliver them.
Rehman College of Allied Health Sciences (RCAHS) was established to help close that gap. Our training environment at Rehman Medical Institute (RMI) is built to standards comparable with leading national and international setups. Students train inside a fully centralised clinical laboratory where each department is equipped with advanced diagnostic technology, including:
- Real-Time PCR systems
- Sequencing platforms
- Immunoassay analysers
- Haematology auto-analysers
- Coagulation analysers
Every RCAHS student completes mandatory supervised clinical training, working alongside qualified laboratory professionals on real diagnostic workflows. This close mentorship is central to how we build competent, confident, and employable graduates.
Career Pathways
Graduates of the programme are qualified to work in:
- Hospital diagnostic laboratories
- Independent and commercial laboratories
- Clinics and primary care facilities
- Public health and disease surveillance laboratories
- Forensic and crime investigation laboratories
- Technical sales and marketing of diagnostic instruments and reagents
- Federal and provincial regulatory and accreditation bodies
- Research and development of new clinical assays and diagnostic methods
Graduates may also pursue postgraduate study — MPhil and PhD pathways in disciplines such as Microbiology, Haematology, Molecular Biology, Chemical Pathology, and Histopathology — or move into laboratory management and quality assurance roles.
Career Prospects
Presently, laboratory technologists are working in various government and private institutes, hospitals, national and international organizations and imparting a substantial role in providing state of the art laboratory services which can be matched with any good laboratory practice being provided by highly developed countries all around the globe to their esteemed patients.
Medical laboratory technologists have been consistently engaged in the management of pathology laboratories and clinical research and epidemiology as well as national and international infectious diseases control programmes like TB, HIV, Hepatitis, Polio Eradication, and COVID-19 surveillance programmes.
Admission
Admission to Rehman College of Allied Health Sciences (RCAHS) is offered in fall each year. The admission is based on open merit through the RCAHS Admission Committee in accordance with the policies laid down by the Khyber Medical University.
All decisions of the admission committee are deemed as final. The candidates are required to apply on prescribed application form available ONLINE at http://admissions.rmi.edu.pk/.
Successful candidates will be provided with further instructions to complete the admission process. All such candidates must submit an undertaking on Rs. 100/- judicial paper.

Eligibility Criteria
- HSSC (Pre-Medical) or Equivalent with a minimum of 50% marks
- Appearance in KMU-CAT is mandatory.
- Age: Maximum 25 Years
Scheme of Study
Merit List
- The admission to the in Allied Health Sciences Programmes shall be made strictly based on merit
- In case the final merit of more than one candidate is equal up to four decimals, the candidate older in age shall stand higher in merit
- After the display of the final merit list, if there is any vacant seat, the next student on merit on the waiting list will be offered admission against such vacant seat
Merit Weightage
- Matric: 10%
- HSSC or equivalent: 50%
- KMU-CAT: 40%
Admission Process
RCAHS admits students annually through a transparent, merit-based admission process. Admissions are open to all eligible applicants without discrimination on the basis of ethnicity, race, religion, gender, or domicile.
Applications for all academic programmes must be submitted through the official admissions portal [admissions.rmi.edu.pk]. Only applications received through the prescribed online system shall be considered for scrutiny, merit determination, and further processing.
All shortlisted applicants shall be required to appear for an interview on the scheduled date and present their original academic credentials and supporting documents for verification.
Applicants offered admission shall be required to submit the following documents:
- Secondary School Certificate (SSC) or IBCC Equivalence Certificate
- Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) or IBCC Equivalence Certificate
- Domicile Certificate
- Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) or Form ‘B’ of the applicant
- CNIC of the father or legal guardian
- Recent passport-size photographs

All official communication regarding the admission process shall be made exclusively through the mobile number and email address provided by the applicant at the time of application.
Applicants are responsible for ensuring that their contact information remains accurate and accessible throughout the admission process.
An offer of admission shall remain provisional and subject to the successful verification of all submitted documents, medical fitness, payment of the prescribed fee, and fulfilment of all conditions specified in the Admission Offer Letter within the stipulated timeframe.
Upon admission, every student and their parent or legal guardian shall be required to submit a duly notarized affidavit on Rs. 100/- stamp paper, confirming their acceptance of the college’s academic, disciplinary, legal, and financial regulations, together with all other applicable policies and rules governing enrollment at RCAHS.
General Provision
- Regulatory authorities’ directives regarding admissions 2026 – 27 issued from time to time will be followed
- A strict NO DONATION POLICY is adopted. No one except the office of admissions is authorized to give a written admission offer
- Fee for more than one (1) Semester will not be demanded
- All fees will be deposited in the official college-designated bank account
- SCHOLARSHIPS: As per the institution’s past practices, scholarships will be offered as per policy. Further details can be obtained from the college website.
